Few businesses who offer their products at the Hardin County Fair have become more of a family tradition than the waffles stand on the midway. Three generations of the Buerger family have used their vacations and weekends to keep the customers satisfied with their product.

Estimated attendance for the Hardin County Fair was 56,415, according to figures released by Judi Cronley, secretary/treasurer. That is an increase of more than 2,000 from last year’s estimate of 54,376.

Ada’s Varsity Singers opened the swing choir show Sunday afternoon at the grandstand of the 2017 Hardin County Fair. A crowd of 786 attended the concert which also featured singers from Hardin Northern, Kenton High School and Middle School, Ridgemont and Riverdale.

It was another successful Junior Fair Livestock Sale on Saturday at the Hardin County Fair. New records were set on premiums paid for four animals – champion barrow, reserve champion gilt, reserve champion goat and reserve champion turkey.

The title of Showman of Showmen for the 2017 Hardin County Fair went to Cassidy Deckling of the Hardin Northern FFA. Participants consisted of the senior showmanship winners of each species at the fair. The winner was awarded $100, a lawn chair and a vase by the sponsors. Deckling is the daughter of Rob and Traci Deckling of Dunkirk.

Several bidders were on hand Sunday afternoon to seek one of the wooden sculptures created by Brandon Adams of Bear Hollow Wood Carvers. Adams uses a chain saw to cut the forms out of a log.

Mickey Stevens posted a sign at Sam’s Italian Sausage commemorating her 50th year at the Hardin County Fair. Stevens’ trailer has been located in nearly the same spot on the midway since she opened at the fair.

Kenton drainage project advances

Hardin County is moving forward with plans to improve the drainage and reduce flooding on the south side of Kenton. City and county officials met at the commissioners’ office Thursday morning to review the plans to bore under the railroad located near the corner of South Main Street (Ohio 31) and Letson Avenue (formerly Fairground Road).
