Monarch butterflies topic at University Club II

University Club II conducted its first meeting of the year on Sept. 16 at Friendship Garden on Kohler Street in Kenton. President Madelyn Lowery called the meeting to order with a warm welcome back after a three-month break. Vice President Adeline Terry introduced the speaker for the program, Carol McKinley. Along with her many accomplishments as a mother and grandmother, Carol is a teacher and a master gardener. The topic of the evening was Monarch butterflies.

Movie at Alger library

ALGER — Alger Public Library’s free family movie night for October will be “Halloweentown” on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. Snacks and a drink will be provided. Guests should feel free to come dressed as your favorite “Halloweentown” character.

Live life to the fullest: Self-Improvement Month

September is designated as Self-Improvement Month. While some of us might think that we are completely fine and there is no need for any improvements, there are others of us out there that don’t even know where to start because we want to change so many things about ourselves. If possible, it might be easiest this month to find a happy medium and focus on just a few ways to make ourselves the best version of ourselves as possible.

Ohioans invited to walk a mile to help state take ‘10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls’

COLUMBUS — For the fifth consecutive year, the Ohio Department of Aging, through its STEADY U Ohio falls prevention initiative, invites all Ohioans to help take “10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls.” To date, community partners have organized more than four dozen local walking events and groups on National Falls Prevention Awareness Day, Monday, Sept. 23, and throughout September.
