Kenton City Schools will be closed for winter break starting Thursday, Dec. 20 through Wednesday, Jan. 2. Classes will resume Thursday, Jan. 3.

MOUNT VICTORY — The Ridgemont Public Library’s Book Club will have an end-of-the-year party on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in Mount Victory. People are invited to help the club pick out next year’s books.

FOREST — The Forest-Jackson Public Library will be closed Monday through Wednesday, Dec. 24 through 26, for Christmas. The library will also be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, for New Years. The card catalog is available 24/7 at www.forestlibrary.org.

The Benjamin Logan FFA traveled to Green Hills Community on Monday, Dec. 10 as a collaborative philanthropy event. Students involved consisted of Benjamin Logan FFA, SkillsUSA, 8th grade Graphic Design and 7th grade Agriculture students.

The Hardin County PERI Chapter 34 met Dec. 7 at the Plaza Inn, Mount Victory for its annual Christmas luncheon with 26 members and associates present. President Gerald Potter called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Minerva Club held its annual Christmas dinner Monday, Dec. 10 at the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall. There were 21 members in attendance. The General Committee comprised of Lyn Davis, Molly Wagner, and Karen Cannode was in charge of the evening choosing the theme “A Child’s Christmas in Kenton".

The Memorial Park Bridge Club met on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at the Pro Shop Annex. The hostess was Anne Boston-Smith and there were five tables in play.

There will be no Amvets 1994 fish fry in December since the event would have been slated close to Christmas. There will be a fish fry in Jaunary.

There's a small gift book I have with this title. In it the author shares stories of a half dozen people, who, when things looked bleak to say the least, overcame the obstacles in their path to go on to fame. I recall one was Ben Hogan and another Wilma Rudolph. In Hogan's case he'd had a successful golf career and had just been injured badly in an automobile accident.

Ada Monday – popcorn chicken with BBQ sauce, dinner roll, mashed potatoes with gravy, fruit. Tuesday – taco with chips with all the fixings, steamed carrots, fruit.
