The Ada Kiwanis held their weekly meeting on Tuesday, April 24 at the Eastgate Kewpee in Lima. President Jack Jeffery called the meeting to order at noon.

The Sacrament of Confirmation was celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kenton on April 9. The celebrant was Most Reverend Fredrick F. Campbell, Bishop of Columbus, and co-celebrant Reverend David J. Young.

Rev. Thomas E. Eisenman, who turned 91 on April 25, continues as a pastor with 68 years of service and has been serving as pastor at the First Reformed United Church of Christ in Kenton for the past 28 years. He is married to Sarah Hallman and has three sons: Thomas, Robert and Richard.

CAREY — The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey will be celebrating a special mass in honor of Saint Peregrine, patron saint of those affected by cancer, on Friday, May 4 at 7 p.m. in the Basilica. Anyone suffering from cancer, in remission from cancer, a cancer survivor and their loved ones and caregivers are especially invited to participate.

In the summer of 2014, a Pennsylvania game officer spotted unusual insects congregated in a Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima). They had distinctive spots and red hind wings. Within a month, this invasive planthopper was identified as the Spotted Lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula).

ASHLAND -- Caitlin Johnson of Kenton received the senior award for the Department of Foreign Languages at the Ashland University Academic Honors in Jack & Deb Miller Chapel on Sunday, April 22. Johnson is majoring in Spanish.

The Top of Ohio chapter of Mended Hearts will meet Thursday, May 10 at 6 p.m. in the conference room on the first floor near the cafeteria at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. The speaker will be Sandy Rabenstein, registered respiratory therapist with Mary Rutan Hospital’s Cardiac Rehab.

The Memorial Park Bridge Club met on Wednesday, April 25 at the Pro Shop Annex. The hostess was Susan Dewese and there were three tables in play.
