I want to thank all of our readers and newspapers along the line for reading The Amish Cook. 2018 will mark the column's 27th year and I've been at the helm the whole time. It seems insane to do anything that long, but loyal readers and wonderful newspapers have stuck with it and I'm grateful.

Each year the University Club II awards a scholarship to a junior or senior college student who is a resident of Hardin County. Applications for this scholarship will be available Jan. 2, 2018 at the following Hardin County libraries: Ada Public Library in Ada, USV Public Library in Alger, Hardin Northern Public Library in Dunkirk, Forest Jackson Public Library in Forest, Mary Lou Johnson Library in Kenton, and Ridgemont Public Library in Mount Victory and Ridgeway.

National Card Playing Day is celebrated on Dec. 28. What a perfect time of year to have this holiday since a lot of people have the day off of work.

ALGER — The Alger Memorial Festival Committee is sponsoring a country-style breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at the Alger Social Center, 210 N. Main St. On the menu are biscuits, sausage gravy, hash browns, scrambled eggs, fried apples, sausage patties and beverage for a suggested donation of $7.

Kenton-Hardin County Soroptimist International congratulates Club 250 winner Heather Blue for week four. She will receive $100. Club 250 is a fundraiser to help provide scholarships for women and girls.

MOUNT VICTORY — The Victory Jamboree will hold its New Year’s Eve – End of the Year celebration from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 at the Community Building, 234 N. Washington St., Mount Victory. Doors open at 4 p.m. The event will have a carry-in supper – bring your own service.

Kenton Garden Club met Tuesday, Dec. 19 at the home of Jane Landsberg at 6 p.m. for a carry-in dinner and gift exchange. The home was tastefully decorated with a Christmas tree and many Christmas decorations adorning the home.
