BELLEFONTAINE — Darian Rockhold had three hits with a home run and Kinzie Jones added two hits with a pair of RBIs to lead Ben Logan to a 9-4 Central Buckeye Conference softball win over Indian Lake on Tuesday.

Most people in the area know Larry Gossard as the organizer of the Family Fun Day and Car Show, which raises money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. But his dedication to neurofibromatosis (NF) research is a year-long dedication. Gossard’s son, Bryce, is a victim of the condition which can cause blindness, deafness, disfiguration, cancer, learning disabilities and developmental delays.

RIDGEWAY — Ridgemont took control with a five-run first inning and never looked back on the way to a 10-0 five-inning victory over Hardin Northern in Northwest Central Conference baseball action on Monday. The Gophers improve to 12-4 overall and 8-2 in NWCC play, while Hardin Northern is now 3-13 and 1-8.

Whether it’s running the youth wrestling program in which his son is involved or helping his daughters on their soccer teams, Michael Hunt is all about being active in his children’s involvements. With a young son showing an interest in wrestling and no local program for him to join, Hunt stepped forward to start the Kenton Youth Wrestling program.

About 30 Kenton Middle School students made quick work of cleaning up the school’s courtyard Saturday morning. They removed brush, trees and neglected flower beds and plan to give the area a new landscaped look next month.

DOLA — Riverdale was first in two events and second in five other events on the way to claiming the boys team championship with 113 points at the Hardin Northern Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons received first place finishes in the 3,200 relay as Justin Scott, Antonio Renteria, Ben Gannon and Josh Hunter clocked a 9:12.4 and in the pole vault as Taylor Bacon cleared 11-6.

It’s a long way from Dunkirk to Boston, but Hardin Northern graduate Brianne Steiner Fritz found herself bridging that gap on Monday as she crossed the finish line in the Boston Marathon.

ROUNDHEAD — When veterans are called heroes, it is usually for showing valor on a battlefield. The remaining members of Roundhead VFW Post 8832 are several decades removed from combat, yet they remain heroes to the people of their community as they continue to serve.
