Money in works for swimming pool plans

The Kenton Parks and Recreation Board hopes to get a head start on preparing the city’s swimming pool for the 2020 season. Jesse Purcell, a member of the board, made the case to City Council's Finance Committee on Monday night for an appropriation of $2,250 to get the task underway. The committee agreed to include the amount in an ordinance to be before council at its meeting on Aug. 26.

Dunkirk resolves alley issue

DUNKIRK — With a new map provided by the property owner, an issue surrounding the ownership of an alley on S. Buckeye Street in Dunkirk has been resolved. At Monday’s regular meeting, Dunkirk council members heard from Karen White, mother of Clayborn White, who is owner of the property in the 100 block of S. Buckeye Street.

Noel makes connections with people while helping them with technology

As technology trainer at the area libraries, Chloe Noel has formed connections with those she helps, learning a little bit about them each time. Chloe is in her fourth year as technology trainer, which is a position originally funded by AmeriCorps for her first two years and is now funded by a grant through the state library.

Incoming ONU students to engage with community

ADA — Ohio Northern University will put active learning and community involvement into practice with the annual Ada Community Engagement (ACE) event from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. The program is designed to engage incoming students with their college home and provide opportunities for ONU’s first-year students to contribute to the village and surrounding communities.

Maintaining Grove chapel not fiscally practical, future unsure

End of an icon

For more than a century, the stone chapel at Grove Cemetery in Kenton has been a central icon. But today it is a storage building and the price tag for repairing the aged chapel has exceeded its worth, the board of trustees has determined. As they look for ways to remove it, the board members are seeking someone who can keep the stained glass windows and concrete gargoyles away from the wrecking ball.
