Jon Cross of Kenton received endorsements from several area officials Saturday morning to kick off his fall campaign to become the 83rd District state representative. Before embarking on a bus tour of several communities in the district, the first-time political office seeker received the verbal backing of Hardin County Commissioners Brice Beaman and Roger Crowe, mayors Tom Seem of Forest and Mike Trout of Mount Victory, and Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart and Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds.

A group of local veterans climbed on a pair of commercial buses last weekend to participate in a trip they will not soon forget. The bus trip was the second for the Logan County Vets to DC organization.

McGUFFEY — Area veterans have three special places to park for the football games at Upper Scioto Valley. The brightly painted spots are red, white and blue with stars and a big USA featured on the spaces.

From the time Barbara Maxson arrived as the fiscal officer of the Hardin County Job and Family Services in 2011, she found a friend. Just down the hallway was Terri Hites-Suter, supervisor of the department’s income maintenance program.

ADA — Ada Schools Superintendent Mary Skilliter defended her school district from a state report card article that was published in a Times on Sept. 16.

MOUNT VICTORY — There are expected to be another 104 paved parking spaces available at the Ridgemont school by the middle of next week. The school board, at its meeting Thursday afternoon, approved a $63,875 bid from Quality Paving of Belle Center to pave the student parking lot behind the school building.

ADA — The Ada Board of Education took the following action at its meeting Thursday night: – Approved the following supplemental contracts for the 2017-18 school year: Sarah Davis, entry year mentor; Christina Bowden, entry year mentor; Julie Thaxton, entry year mentor; Erica Shadley, LPDC member; Bill Taflinger, varsity girls basketball coach; William Robert (Billy) Taflinger, JV girls basketball coach; Kyle Poling, eighth grade girls basketball coach; Lindsey Walden, seventh grade girls basketball coach; Christy Beaschler, boys tennis coach; and Kent Everhart, assistant baseball coach.

DOLA — Members of the Hardin Northern Board of Education are not satisfied with the work being done at this point on the baseball field of the new sports complex north of the school. The $1 million project will make improvements to the existing baseball field.

DOLA — While the annual report card from the Ohio Department of Education provides some important data to districts, it is only one of many tools needed by educators to meet the needs of the students and give an accurate picture of the district’s progress for its residents, said Hardin Northern Superintendent Jeff Price.

McGUFFEY — The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating allegations of hazing or bullying at the Upper Scioto Valley Schools. According to a press release from Sheriff Keith Everhart, his office is conducting a criminal investigation in the alleged incident which involves “multiple students.”
