ADA — For most of his life, Juan Mendez has fought the terrors of torture. He knows his subject well both from a professional and a personal level and is known internationally as an expert on torture. On Friday, Mendez told the law clinic students at Ohio Northern University in Ada that torture continues to be an option throughout the globe, including the U.S.

Young professionals discuss role for new organization

Young professionals from throughout Hardin County met to share information and ideas at the first organized meeting of the Young Professional Alliance on Thursday evening in Kenton. The purpose of the gathering was to determine what the members see as the role of the new organization, said Jesse Purcell, Director of Chamber and Tourism at the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance.

Kenton is being given the opportunity to reimagine its downtown through a revitalization program. Aaron Domini, planner with OHM Advisors of Columbus, discussed the two-track project which first would focus below the surface, followed by a streetscape plan. About 40 community members attended an open house to learn about the plans on Wednesday evening at the Hardin County Courthouse.

Couple hope MV shop will be destination for antiquers

MOUNT VICTORY — The Old Tin Cup Antiques offers something to just about every interest as it opens its doors for business on Saturday. Located beside the railroad tracks on Main Street in Mount Victory, the business had been the House of Yesteryear for many years under the ownership of Lowell and Jerry Brose. But the new owners, Jeff and Shawn Detwiler, think their shop is unique and will be a destination for antiquers throughout the area.

No refund for Kroger’s ONU kiosk

A kiosk operated on the Ohio Northern University campus in Ada was removed by the Kroger Company and the grocery chain asked for a refund from the Kenton-Hardin Health Board on its unused vending license. The kiosk was removed by Kroger in December which had paid for the license through the end of the year, reported Director of Environmental Services Shane Lotts at the board’s monthly meeting Tuesday night.
