Open house set for Kenton downtown plan

Kenton residents are invited to learn about the city’s downtown revitalization plan during an open house Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Veterans Hall in the Hardin County Courthouse. The program will be led by representatives from OHP, an architectural, engineering and planning firm which has been retained by the city for the downtown project.

EPA wants Kenton to create new contingency plan for water shutdowns

Kenton may have to create a new contingency plan to deal with future water shutdowns due to water line breaks. Safety Service Director Jim Hites reported at Monday’s City Council session that the issue developed following the latest break on March 4. It forced water to be turned off throughout the city to allow workers to make repairs.

But in recent years, the rules and regulations adopted by the Jackson Township trustees many decades ago are being ignored, resulting in safety concerns and a financial hardship to the community, said Sexton Jerry Moore.

Ada area resident moved to different type of teaching

ADA — After 31 years of teaching in the Ada School District, Tom Dearth said the Holy Spirit told him it would be his last year at the school, and that he’d be moving on to another type of teaching. In 2001, after serving for eight months as its interim pastor, Dearth took over full time at the County Line Church of the Brethren, located northwest of Ada.

Matt Wenning’s belt squat machine is being built at JB Tubulars and in a short time has found its way into NFL weight rooms and has been sent to equipment rooms throughout America, Canada, Australia and Iceland.

R’mont adds agriculture teacher

MOUNT VICTORY — The Ridgemont Board of Education hired a second agriculture instructor for the district during its meeting Thursday night. Shelby Faulkner, a former state FFA president and graduate of The Ohio State University, will join the district for the 2017-2018 year as a grades 7-12 agriculture and environmental systems teacher. She has taught one year at Indian Lake.

Coroner: Give kids love and simple message: ‘Don’t take drugs’

MOUNT VICTORY — Hardin County Coroner Larry Kuk said the chances of parents keeping their children drug-free could be as simple as simply showing them love and telling them “don’t take drugs.” Kuk was part of a group consisting of Juvenile Court Judge Steve Christopher, Sheriff Keith Everhart and Deputy Christina Henderson, who talked with parents and staff at Ridgemont on Wednesday evening. “Anytime I deal with drugs, someone is dead,” said Kuk.
