FOREST — A teen reported missing from the Dunkirk community has been found and returned to the custody of Hardin County Juvenile Court. Sheriff Keith Everhart said this morning that Devin Holbrook, 17, was located in Wyandot County after his family reported him missing.

Simon Kenton leader wants people with disabilities to be ‘part of the community’

In the 1950s, parents with a developmentally disabled child were encouraged to place them in an institution and walk away. Today, said Simon Kenton Superintendent Kara Brown, there are many activities and opportunities for those children because parents 60 years ago refused to walk away from the responsibility of being a parent.

USV, Ridgemont face big budget cuts from state in Kasich proposal

The final version of Ohio’s budget for the coming two years is still months away, but Hardin County area schools gained an insight into what Governor John Kasich is proposing for the future funding of education in the state. For most local districts, the impact is minimal, but two schools will see significant reductions in state foundation payments if the proposed budget passes.

Kenton man gets 11 years in prison on sex charges

A Kenton man who eluded capture for nearly a year was sentenced to 11 years in prison on sex-related charges and declared a sexually-oriented offender Tuesday during sentencing in Hardin County Common Pleas Court. Kevin Shepherd, 43 Grape St., was originally facing 20 charges as his trial approached in 2015, but when the time arrived for court hearing he fled the state.

Funding in place for Kenton parks director, pool manager

Kenton City Council approved legislation on Monday night to enable the city to fund the parks and recreation director and assistant pool manager positions for 2017. Council, following suspension of the three-reading rule, adopted the ordinance providing for the transfer of $12,705 from the council receptionist line item in the general fund to the recreation and swimming pool fund.

Ramsey enjoys moving up to director at Ridgemont Library

MOUNT VICTORY — Beccy Ramsey will be starting her 28th year at the Ridgemont Public Library – her second as director – in May. Even with 27 years on the job, Ramsey said she is still learning, and with her, the library is adapting to technology. Much of her 27 years with the Ridgemont Public Library was spent as the children’s librarian, only taking over as director last May. For the first six months of her career, Ramsey served as a fill-in at the library in Ridgeway.

Leland: Dems need to do better job sharing their vision

The former chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party said Saturday there has not been a crisis facing the U.S. since the Civil War which threatens the nation more than the presidency of Donald Trump. Rep. David Leland said the question facing the country now is not if someone is a Democrat or Republican. “The question is are you a patriot or not?” said Leland. “Are you going to stand up for America or aren’t you?”
