Hardin Central site sale closes

Sale of the former Hardin Central property is finally official. Kenton Board of Education President David Haushalter said closing on the sale was completed on Feb. 1. Cocca Development, Ltd., based in Boardman, Ohio, agreed to pay $550,000 for the 12-acre tract on East Columbus Street at Jacob Parrott Boulevard.

Sheriff saves Alger from police scam, will give hourly rate for deputy in town

ALGER — Members of the Alger council said they were nearly scammed, but will use the experience to their advantage. Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart met with council Monday night and discussed his investigation into Blue Line. Two representatives of the company visited council earlier this month and offered to establish a police department at no charge to the village.

BOWLING GREEN — Rodney Rogers has always gone through life trying to make the most of opportunities. Doing so has taken him from his hometown of Kenton to places such Cleveland, Oregon in the Pacific Northwest, overseas to France and back to northwest Ohio. Since 2011, Rogers has been serving as provost and senior vice president at Bowling Green State University where he is “making sure that we are delivering a world-class education for our undergraduate and graduate students.”

Sheriff concerned over plan for Alger to secure a police force at no charge

When two representatives from Blue Line Solutions attended the last Alger Village Council meeting on Feb. 6, they told members their proposal to start a police department in the village at no local cost sounded “too good to be true.” It is, Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart said Friday. Everhart said he first heard of the company’s proposal when he read about it in the Times.

Citing cost, Ada board delays vote on tax renewal until November

ADA — To avoid an $8,400 special election cost, and given the community’s previous support, the Ada Board of Education decided to wait until November to seek a renewal of its .75 percent income tax levy. The board voted 4-0 (Ron Fleming was not present) to withdraw its request to go on the May primary ballot with the renewal levy, which is set to expire Dec. 31 of this year.

Ridgemont senior killed in one car accident

A Ridgemont High School senior died this morning as a result of a one-car accident Thursday evening, south of Kenton. Keegan McKee, 17, was pronounced dead at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. According to Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart, McKee was driving southbound on Ohio 292 near Township Road 206, at about 9:50 p.m., when she lost control of her …

Forest CIC learns village narrowly missed getting Honda parts supplier

FOREST — For a while, it seemed like the village of Forest was going to see good financial times. Village Administrator Wes Davis reported to the town’s Community Improvement Corporation Wednesday that negotiations had progressed between a private owner and a Honda parts supplier. Through last summer, said Davis, the village was told to prepare for a factory.
