Alger residents learn of plans to replace natural gas lines

New gas lines

ALGER — The streets in Alger will be a mess for a few months, but representatives of Columbia Gas assured residents the inconveniences will not last long and will be worth the wait. Emily Kizer, external affairs specialist for Columbia Gas of Ohio, vowed the streets and lawns throughout the village will be restored to their original condition once the company replaces the aging mains and service lines in the village.

Ada High senior amazed at Honor Band’s sound during 129th Rose Parade

ADA — Ada High School senior Libbie Milks participated in the 129th Rose Parade on Jan. 2 in Pasadena, Calif., as a flutist in the Bands of America Honor Band, and she could not believe how great the band sounded together. That sound did not come by accident, of course, with the group of students from all across the country holding rehearsals together prior to the performances. For Milks, those rehearsals were the most memorable part of her trip to Southern California.

R’dale announces plan to limit forms for students

MOUNT BLANCHARD — For parents in the Riverdale School District, filling out numerous hard copies of emergency medical forms may soon be a thing of the past. Assistant Principal Jeff Young announced to the school board at its regular meeting Monday night that the district is looking at putting all of its emergency medical forms online through a company called FinalForms.

County’s economy is strong and expected to get even stronger

The economic health of the county is good and on the threshold of setting records, according to Jon Cross, President and CEO of the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance. Cross was one of the presenters at the Alliance’s Economic and Community Development Breakfast on Friday morning at Henry’s Restaurant in Kenton. Community and business leaders filled the banquet room to hear an update on local development and the programs being offered to businesses.

Deputy shares local stories about sex crimes

The people who came to the Jacob Parrott Safety Center in Kenton on Thursday night must have expected to be given statistics about sex trafficking and they weren’t disappointed. It is estimated 65 percent of men who participate in sex trafficking are in positions of authority or trust, said Deb Oestreich of the Crossroads Crisis Center, which sponsored the program along with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.
