VANLUE — Heading into the fourth quarter Thursday night, the Riverdale girls basketball team needed to more than double the points they had scored in the first three quarters combined if they wanted a chance to win against Blanchard Valley Conference foe Vanlue.

Kenton Elementary School has announced students receiving its December Leadership Award. The award is based on students displaying attributes that include The 7 Habits as well as virtues such as Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Empathy, Caring, Teamwork, Fairness, Honesty, Cooperation, Integrity and Perseverance.

An Amish farmer gathers up the bundles of corn stalks at his field south of Kenton with his dog nearby. The recent dry weather has allowed farmers throughout the county to get into their fields and harvest one of the most successful corn crops on record for the area.

Activity staff and residents of Hardin Hills Health and Rehab Center kicked off Christmas spirit week with Christmas head gear day. Many themed activities are planned this week.

Carol McKinley, representing Master Gardeners, was a speaker at a Kenton Rotary meeting as a guest of member John Steinman. McKinley gave a very interesting presentation about the Monarch butterfly.

Boy Scout Donald Waters achieved the Star rank at the recent Ada Troop 124 Court of Honor held at St. Marks Lutheran Church. Donald is an accomplished outdoor scouter and will now work on badges and service to the community, nation and world to earn the coveted Life and Eagle scout ranks.

Firefighters from throughout the area responded to a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Kenton. The call came into the Kenton Fire Department at 4:52 p.m. for the house owned by Keri Rood at 312 Robinson Ave.
