After getting a big lift with a hard-fought 35-27 win over Van Wert last Friday, the Kenton football team hopes to make it two in a row when the Wildcats host Shawnee in a homecoming matchup on Friday night. Both teams look to even their WBL marks as the Wildcats enter the game with a 2-4 overall slate and a 2-3 WBL record, while Shawnee is 3-3 and 2-3.

Riverdale goes after its second straight Blanchard Valley Conference win when it hosts McComb on Friday. Riverdale (4-2) rebounded from a 63-0 loss two weeks ago, by defeating Cory-Rawson 21-14 last Friday.

SPRINGFIELD — George Kern’s 23rd goal of the season gave the Ben Logan boys soccer team an early lead against Kenton Ridge on Wednesday night. The Cougars, however, rallied with two goals late in the first half and then held on in the second 40 minutes for a 2-1 win over the Raiders in the Central Buckeye Conference match.

Fishing remains steady at Saulisberry Park in Kenton as a few crappies and bluegill are being caught. The Sept. 28 bass tournament was won by Chet and Luke Baughan with 6 pounds, 11 ounces and a big bass of 3.5 pounds.

BELLEFONTAINE — The Ben Logan Middle School volleyball teams won their Central Buckeye Conference tournament openers on Wednesday night as both squads defeated Tecumseh. The seventh grade Raiders won in three sets 18-25, 25-13, 25-17.

In the flow of play, Riverdale’s girls are dangerous. The Falcons clinched their first outright North Central Ohio Soccer Association title in style Tuesday, netting four goals in a late eight minute stretch to seal a 6-0 victory over a scrappy Upper Sandusky team.

Elida defeated Kenton 2-0 in a Western Buckeye League girls soccer matchup on Tuesday night.

A week ago, the members of Kenton golf team thought that when sectional play concluded they would be packing up their clubs for the winter. The Wildcats surprised even themselves though as they put together their best 18-hole team round of the year to qualify for the Division II district tournament on Thursday at Red Hawk Run Golf Course just outside of Findlay.

ADA — Maddie Gossard recorded her 1,000th career assist as the Ada volleyball team blasted Spencerville 25-7, 25-16, 25-14 in Northwest Conference volleyball action on Tuesday night.
