ADA — Junior Amy Bullimore posted her second double-double in the last three games to help lift the No. 6-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team over Baldwin Wallace 68-43 on Wednesday night. The Polar Bears remain perfect on the season and improve to 20-0 overall and 13-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 16-4, 9-4.

BEREA — Senior Devon Allen tied a season-high with 27 points, leading Ohio Northern to a 94-76 victory at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night. The Polar Bears (13-7 overall, 11-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) run their winning streak to eight games and remain in a first place tie atop the league standings with No. 15-ranked Marietta. The Kenton eighth grade girls basketball team won a pair of games recently. The Wildcats defeated Marion Pleasant 39-18 on Tuesday. Lindsey Smith led the Wildcats with 10 points, while Makenzie Bays added 8 points. Also for the Wildcats, Kaylin Hildreth and Jenna Manns netted 6 points each, Laney Harpel had 4 points, Mary Heilman and Carly Dearing had 2 points each and Jazlen Hugley had 1 point.

In recent years, Kent State has become a destination of sorts for Kenton High School football players after their high school playing careers are finished. When offensive lineman Tyler Heintz signed his letter of intent this morning to continue his education and football career at Kent State, he became the fourth Wildcat in the past seven years who will continue his education and playing career as a Golden Flash.

SPRINGFIELD — Ben Logan defeated Kenton Ridge 51-45 in a Central Buckeye Conference boys basketball matchup on Tuesday night. The game was tight the entire way as Kenton Ridge led 11-7 after eight minutes before the Raiders pulled ahead 18-16 by halftime and 31-30 after three quarters.

The host Tigers led 15-11 after one quarter before pulling away to a 31-18 lead by halftime and a 50-24 advantage after three quarters.

Four arson fires rock south Kenton area

The streets of southern Kenton were a beehive of activity early Saturday morning as firefighters from 10 departments battled four separate arson fires in the area. Two of the homes were occupied, one was vacant and the fourth home was empty as the renters were in the process of moving.

Cheryl Buckland, a Republican candidate for the 83rd House District in Ohio, said she has not encouraged the involvement of any political action committees (PACs) in her campaign. That followed the release of more radio ads and mailings attacking the conservative credentials of her opponent, Jon Cross of Kenton.
