ONU football drops opener at Denison

GRANVILLE — Denison topped Ohio Northern 42-13 in the Polar Bears football season-opener on Saturday. The Polar Bears (0-1) opened the scoring on the second play of the second quarter when senior Anthony McFadden hit sophomore Austin Eick on a 6-yard pass to go ahead 6-0.

Ben Logan volleyball spikes N.U. in three

BELLEFONTAINE — The Benjamin Logan volleyball team improved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the league play with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 win over visiting North Union on Saturday. Kylie Frazier came up big at the net for the Raiders, recording 8 kills and 4 blocks while dishing out 13 assists.

R’dale tops Archbold to remain unbeaten

ARCHBOLD — Jackson Clark had a goal and an assist to help Riverdale get past Archbold 3-1 in a non-league boys soccer matchup on Saturday. The Falcons, who led 2-0 just past the midway point of the first half, also received goals from Coby Miller and Logan Frey in the contest.

Bluffton bests R’dale girls

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Bluffton broke a 1-1 halftime tie with two goals in the second half on the way to a 3-1 win over Riverdale in a non-league girls soccer matchup on Saturday. Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, the Falcons tied the game on a goal by Lexi Miller with 1:51 left before halftime.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Looking to hold on to a comfortable 28-0 lead over Hardin Northern going into halftime at home, Riverdale gave up a 33-yard passing touchdown with just four seconds to go in the half. The touchdown swayed momentum toward the Polar Bears who scored 14 unanswered points in the second half, but the Riverdale defense buckled down and held on for the 28-20 non-conference victory on Friday.

Fast start helps WL-S rout Ben Logan, 54-0

BELLEFONTAINE — West Liberty-Salem built a 51-point lead by halftime and coasted through the second half in a 54-0 rout of Ben Logan on Friday night. West Liberty quarterback Trevor Woodruff threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another score and Trent Berry added a pair of scores on 78 yards rushing to lead the Tigers. They led 24-0 after 12 minutes before scoring four times in the second quarter.

Arlington slows down Ada in second half

ARLINGTON — Facing a 14-0 deficit against Arlington on the road early in the second quarter, the Ada Bulldogs rallied to close the gap to 14-12 three minutes into the second half of Friday’s non-conference football game. But the Bulldogs were outscored 12-0 in the second half and suffered the 26-12 loss. They fall to 0-2 on the season, while Arlington improves to 2-0.
