Swing thoughts: May 28, 2019

In Spring League play at Memorial Park Golf Course, the team of Brian McFadden, Dean Brim, Jeff Butcher, Lew Hanna and Tami McFadden are holding first place at 31 under with one week of play left. The team of Paul Coker, Reg Sampson, Bryant Piper, Andy Tudor and Joni Rensing are in second place with a 27 under and the team of Brad Hanna, Todd Hayter, Doug Wright, Don Dodds and Judy Brim are in third place with a 23 under.

Little league: May 28, 2019

The second farm Indians defeated the Dodgers 10-7 on Monday afternoon. Leading the way for the Indians was was Braylen Miller with a triple and 2 doubles; Nolan Asman with 3 singles; Emma Kaylor with a double and a single; Tatum Dale with a triple; Mya Hunsaker with a double; Brendan Potter and Dakota Hale-Adkins with 2 singles each; Domanic Sloan, Eliannah Miller and Stewart Kaylor with singles.

Raiders’ Manns jumps into 3rd straight trip to state meet

PIQUA — It was a bit more difficult than the first two times, but Ben Logan’s Madison Manns is going to the Division II state track meet in the high jump for the third straight year. A year after advancing to Columbus by winning the Piqua regional track meet with a top leap of 5-2, Manns easily cleared 5-2 on Thursday afternoon. So did four other jumpers.

Area athletes fall short on first day of DIII regional competition

TIFFIN — It was a rough first day for area athletes as no one was able to finish among the top four finishers and earn a trip to state at the Division III regional track meet at Heidelberg University on Wednesday afternoon. Hardin Northern’s Frank McCoy came the closest to earning a trip to state on the first day of competition as he had a leap of 20-3 1/4 to finish sixth in the long jump.

Lady Falcons selected All-BVC in softball

Five Riverdale players were recognized on the All-Blanchard Valley Conference softball teams released on Wednesday. Falcon freshmen Allison Donaugh and Lainie Howell were selected to the first team, while junior Justine Messmer was chosen second team and sophomore Alyson Greer and freshman Brookelyn Walter were both honorable mention.

West Jefferson ends Lady Raiders tournament run at regionals, 7-2

DAYTON — The Ben Logan softball team’s softball tournament run came to an end on Wednesday afternoon as West Jefferson defeated the Raiders 7-2 in the Division III regional semifinals at Wright State University. The Raiders led 1-0 after scoring a first inning run before West Jefferson took control of the game with three runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth frame.

Bulldogs receive NWC honors

A trio of Ada players received honors on the All-Northwest Conference softball teams released on Wednesday. Ada senior Alexis Ennis was chosen to the second team, while classmate Raina England and sophomore Leona Dalton received honorable mention.
