Several Kenton athletes were recognized on the All-Western Buckeye League boys and girls basketball teams. For the Wildcats boys, Jaron Sharp earned first-team honors, while Jayden Cornell was selected honorable mention.

Hardin Northern, Ridgemont and Upper Scioto Valley were all represented on the All-Northwest Central Conference boys and girls basketball teams released on Monday. Upper Scioto Valley’s Wayne Lowery and Quinn Sanders were both selected to the boys first team, while Hardin Northern’s Nevin Robson and Ridgemont’s Landon Newland and Mason Stuck were all selected to the second team.

Memorial Park Golf Course is set to open Friday if the weather cooperates, In order for the course to be open for play, it must be at least 45 degrees with the wind chill by noon.

CLYDE — Junior Noah Eikenbary had claimed his second straight sectional title, taking first place in the 220-pound weight class to lead the Kenton High School wrestling team at the Division II sectional final at Clyde High School.

HARROD — Arlington controlled the game from start to finish on the way to a 53-13 victory over Ada in a Division IV sectional final contest at Allen East High School on Saturday night. The top-seeded Red Devils, who improve to 20-4 on the season, led 15-2 after eight minutes and 25-5 at halftime before outscoring Ada 21-4 in the third quarter to go ahead 46-9.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The seventh-seeded Ohio Northern women's basketball team nearly completed an improbable run to the NCAA Division III Tournament Saturday, but fell to top-seeded John Carroll 61-58 in the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament finals.

MILLER CITY — Bath jumped ahead of Kenton early and was never challenged in a 48-13 Division II sectional final win over Kenton at Miller City on Saturday night. The Allen County Wildcats led 19-7 after eight minutes and 23-9 at halftime before outscoring Kenton 25-4 in the second half.

VAN BUREN — Three Riverdale wrestlers placed in the top four and qualified for district competition at the Division III sectional wrestling tournament at Van Buren on Saturday. Riverdale senior Thane Gallegos (27-12) was second at 138 pounds, Gallegos won his first three matches before falling to Elmwood’s Core Loera by pin in the championship match.

It was a long time coming, but the Kenton boys basketball team finally had fun on a Friday night this season. The host Wildcats took control in the second quarter and never relinquished the momentum as they dispatched their namesakes from Bath, 72-52. Kenton finishes the regular season at 14-7 overall and 2-7 in WBL play. Bath ends up 1-21 and 0-9.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — With just four seconds left and down one point to Hopewell-Loudon on senior night, the Riverdale Falcons were set to inbound the ball behind the Chieftains’ basket. Alec Loveridge inbounded the ball to Brock Davis who tossed it right back to Loveridge as he curved around the 3-point line and drove to the hoop, but his mid-range shot failed to find the bottom of the net as time expired, as the Falcons fell to Hopewell-Loudon 48-47 on Friday.
