Hardin Northern coach Mike Dennis was voted the Northwest Central Conference football coach of the year and several area players were named to the league’s first and second team on the all-league team released earlier this week. Dennis, who has been battling adrenal cancer, was selected by his peers as the league’s top coach this season after guiding the Polar Bears through a 4-6 season that included a come-from-behind win over Riverside.

The Black team defeated the White team by 16 points in Masonic Pool tournament play on Thursday, Oct. 25. The Black team now leads the tournament by 11 points.

When the current members of the Kenton boys soccer team began playing together as early as kindergarten, the vision of Kenton High School coach Jamie Bartlett was always that they would play in some meaningful games when they reached high school.

TIFFIN — On Saturday during the OHSAA Regional Cross Country Championships at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin, Riverdale senior Kendra Collier’s 32nd place finish was good enough for a qualifying spot in the Division III state meet. She finished the race with a time of 20:21.24 and is the first runner in the tenure of Riverdale coach Kim Rall to qualify for the OHSAA Cross Country State Championships.

TIFFIN — The Kenton Lady Wildcats cross country team placed 13th in Saturday’s Division II regional competition in Tiffin. Kenton finished its season in the 13-team field with a total time of 1:50:42.74 and a score of 287.

The Trophy Bassmasters of Kenton continued their assault on Lake Erie recently as 15 anglers applied their talents and skill to try and capture the five biggest bass of the day. Don Kraft of Alger was the double winner for the day as he brought in the largest five bass creel.

TROY — Benjamin Logan freshman Dani Widmark earned a spot in the Division II state cross country competition by placing 12th in Saturday’s D-II regional race in Troy. Widmark finished 12th in a field of 99 runners, crossing the finish line with a time of 19:44. Her personal record time is 19:35.

TIFFIN — Upper Scioto Valley senior Brady Hipsher finished his cross country career on Saturday, earning the 60th best time in the Division III regional competition in Tiffin. Hipsher took 60th out of 186 runners in the boys competition with a time of 17:37.52.

Monday Fall League — The team of David Bettinger, Chris Rogers, Cole Weyant, Rick Brown and Tami McFadden is holding a strong lead with a 42 under. The team of Brad Hanna, DeWayne Spencer, Jeff Butcher, Tom Taylor and Joni Rensing and the team of Jordan Johnson, Todd Hayter, Randy Comer, Russ Wallace and Vicki Brown are battling for second place with a 37 under with one week to go.
