MARION — Indiana Wesleyan Theatre Guild brings Shakespeare’s spirited romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing to the Marion Palace Theatre stage on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Directed by Dr. Greg Fiebig, Much Ado About Nothing is one of the most popular and charming of Shakespeare’s comedies. The setting of the play centers on a group of young men returning home from war. Rest and relaxation do not suit these soldiers, and so they devise evil plots and trickery to pass the time.
Shakespeare has created two of his most memorable characters; Benedick, an arrogant bachelor, and Beatrice, a delightfully witty young lady.
While Beatrice and Benedick hide their infatuation with one another beneath humorous barbs, young love flourishes as another couple, Hero and Claudio race to the altar. When the scheming and wicked Don John conspires to break up the wedding, will false accusations and misunderstandings prevent the young couple’s happy ending? Shakespeare’s witty wordplay, passionate poetry and clever plot twists remind us “the course of true love never did run smooth” so sometimes it takes us a little bit longer than expected to find our way home.
Proceeds for the show will benefit Indiana Wesleyan University Theatre Scholarship program. Tickets are $12 and available in advance or at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. the evening of the performance. Tickets may also be purchased in advance at the Palace box office, 276 W. Center St., Marion; by phone at 740-383-2101 or online at www.marionpalace.org. Box office hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
