Hardin County News by Hardin County People
Two new young Democrats on Hardin County committees are Daniella Chambers, 20, an elected delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte in September and Spencer Williams, who was 18 when he was appointed to the Central Committee making him probably the youngest Central Committee member in Ohio.
Twenty-three enthusiastic Democrats gathered for the May meeting of the Hardin County Democratic Central and Executive Committees at the Kenton Moose Family Center. Jennifer Walton (Ada South), Pamala Robinson (Mount Victory/Ridgeway/Hale) and Daryl G. Flowers (Goshen) were appointed as precinct representatives. Daniella Chambers (Ada South and Ohio Northern University College Democrats President) was appointed to the Executive Committee.
Chair Don Traxler, Spencer Williams (Alger/McGuffey/Marion), Daniella Chambers (who shook President Obama’s hand), Susan Heath and Brian Heath shared their experiences from the Obama Rally held at the Schottenstein Center at the Ohio State University a couple weeks ago.
Traxler reported that a number of donations had been made to the Headquarters Fund in memory of Shirley Howard. He will be sending thank you cards to those people as well as thanking the family of Shirley Howard for their thoughtfulness in honoring the memory of their mother in this way.
Board of Elections Director Sandy Bookmyer shared that the staff is busy preparing for the general election as well as making plans for the move to the lower level of the Courthouse where they will have more room to have everything in one area. Early voting will be in the Board office and will enable the current staff to handle the early voting on the electronic equipment in the same area.
Notices will be going out soon to the precinct representatives to suggest poll workers for their precincts. Any Democrat who has never served as a poll worker, but would like to be considered is invited to call or send written communication to the Board of Elections. Phone number is 419-674-2211.
Lynn Rainsburg (Pleasant) and Spencer Williams will serve as co-chairs for the Democrat Booth at the Hardin County Fair. Rainsburg will schedule workers for the booth and Williams will be in charge of the physical setting and decorations for the booth. Volunteers for working in the booth or helping to clean and set up the booth may send their names and contact information to Don Traxler 419-234-8506 or dontrax@gmail.com.
John Kostyo (Findlay) gave an update on his campaign for Ohio House of Representatives (83rd District). He stated that he has been going door-to-door in communities in Hardin County and would welcome anyone who would like to join him in walking their neighborhoods. He wants to hear the concerns of those citizens he will be representing and said that he will not vote against the working and middle class people as his opponent had done on Senate Bill 5. He feels the resounding defeat of Issue 2 in the Fall Election is an indication that his opponent did not vote the wishes of his constituents on that issue.
Adreeiane Roy (Lima), Field Organizer for Organizing for America, reported about the phone banking and canvassing being done in Lima and Allen County. She indicated that someone will be assigned to Hardin County in the very near future and those activities will begin here.
The Fall Campaign Kickoff Dinner and Rally to be held Saturday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Kenton Moose Family Center was discussed. More details will be shared at the next meeting and tickets will be distributed at the June 13 meeting.
