HN FFA touts success at fair

Hardin Northern FFA royality for the 2013 Fair included Grant Hites served as fair king, poultry king and goat king; Molly Wilson as fair queen runner-up, and Kylee Hooker served as poultry queen.

The 2013 Hardin County Fair was a success this year for the Hardin Northern FFA chapter. The week was full of hard work, dedication, early mornings and late nights. But all our effort showed through the many accomplishments we received.
Taylor Brown received first place in senior rabbit showmanship and participated in the annual Showman of Showman contest, along with Grant Hites, who won senior sheep showmanship and Cameron Deckling, who won the beef steer showmanship. Grant Hites was also awarded grand champion cull duck.
On Tuesday night Hites was named Fair King and Molly Wilson was rair queen runner-up. Molly received grand champion market beef steer, and also set a record on sale day with $5,000. She also won the fitting and grooming contest for steers on Tuesday.
Cameron Deckling had numerous awards including: reserve champion beef steer, grand champion beef feeder, and reserve champion supreme heifer.
Kenzie Kater was awarded grand champion Brown Swiss. Also, Rhiannon Ferkins received best of show for her FFA horticulture project and Clay Hastings received best of show for his FFA woodworking project.
During the fair, Grant Hites served as the poultry king and the goat king while Kylee Hooker served as poultry queen.
Overall the Hardin Northern FFA had many accomplishments for the 2013 fair. The FFA entered a total of 96 projects varying from livestock to woodworking! Also we had numerous students on junior fair board but Trevor Prichard, Rose Rall and Kayla Thomson received this honor through our FFA.

Steer champions

Cam Deckling received reserve champion steer and Molly Wilson received grand champion steer.

Showman participants

Cam Deckling, Taylor Brown, and Grant Hites participated in the Showman of Showmen Competition, sponsored by Wingfield Crop Insurance and the Hardin County FFA Chapters, by winning their respective senior showmanship divisions. Deckling won for beef steer, Brown for rabbits and Hites for sheep.
