Horse Council prepares for county fair

The Horse Council met on July 9.

Brandi Rowe, Megan Gossard, Dana Stump, Mark Light, Sharon Sloan, Jonda Cole, Joyce Roof, Jackie Stump, Ann Anderson, Chloe Anderson, Ranee Liedel, Greg Liedel, Elaina Schaub, Tiffan Geberin, Stephanie Sorgen, Michelle Long, Toby Long, Ashley Gossard, Kelly Carder, Bob Carder, Brieanne Sullivan, Samantha Sullivan, Cain Sullivan, Laura Gossard, Alesia Martin and Jolene Buchenroth were present.

The meeting was called to order by President Dana Stump. Pastor Steve Smith was introduced and led the group in prayer for Karlee Hooker and her family.

The secretary’s report was approved. (motion to accept by Alesia; seconded by Brieanne)

Old Business:

– A Port-a-Jon has been placed and will stay through August.

– The Boots and Buckles Club will host a fun show on August 7 at 6 p.m. Food will be available. All proceeds from the show and food booth will be donated to the Hooker family.

– The Kruizin for Karlee benefit show will be July 25 at 10 a.m. at the fairgrounds. It will be an approved OWHA contest show. Additionally there will be a spaghetti dinner, silent auction, bike run, 50/50.

– Laura made a motion and Alesia seconded the motion for horse council to donate $200 for the added money classes at the benefit show on July 25. Motion passed.

– Jackie has order forms for Kruizin for Karlee T-shirts.

– Mark updated us on the PAS show. Last chance to qualify was July 12, in Marion. All county entries must be turned into extension office on Monday July 13.

– Mark clarified entry, premium, grading system for 2015. All junior fair entries are electronic and due by July 31. Members should select all classes they wish to show in. No additional classes can be added after July 31. Classes can always be scratched. Advisors will get a master copy and changes will need to be made by August 21.

Advisors will do all grading of their own club members. The grades need to be   turned into the fair office by August 21. There will be no payback for any classes on Wednesday at the fair. Members will get premium based on grade.

– Laura, Alesia, Jolene will meet with the junior fair board horse committee members to discuss running the show at the fair.

– Jackie, Sharon, Tiffany, Joyce, Ashley were selected for the landscape committee. Laura made a motion to approve $150 for landscaping. Alesia seconded. Motion passed. It was noted that all landscaping needs the fair board approval.

– Mark will meet with the youth to discuss ideas for youth activities during the fair.

New Business:

– Stall assignments were discussed. Advisors from each club met with Mark and agreed on number of stalls needed and the area of the barn each club would be in. Current horse project numbers will limit each member to only bring one horse project to the fair this year.

– Decorations and sawdust will be the responsibility of each individual club. Tiffany provided a motion to adjourn. Laura seconded. Motion passed.

Next meeting is August 25 at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place at the horse barn. We will be cleaning up the barn after the meeting.
