Work underway at fairgrounds

The Hardin County Agricultural Society met Saturday at the fair office with 15 board members and several guests present.
Mark Light, Hardin County Extension Educator informed the fair board that the Horse Council will receive a Hardin Community Foundation Grant to purchase a stand for the horse show arena. Hardin County also was one of eight fairs to receive an Educational Commodity display for beef.  Mark also reminded everyone to please vote for  Issue 5 the Hardin County  OSU Extension Levy on Tuesday.
Hardin County Commissioner Ed Elliott informed the fair board that they will pay for the replacement of windows in the grandstand.
Minutes of the last meeting, financial reports and bills to pay were reviewed and approved.
Committee reports were:
• Executive committee – Howard Lyle, chairman
- Nothing to report.
• Grounds committee – Jim Bidwell, chairman
- Bidwell has repaired water leaks, worked on the infield, started building the new junior fair board office on  the north side of the Machinery building and Gary and Patti are working in the flower beds and mowing the grounds.
- Hardin Northern FFA tore out the Jr. Fair board office on the south side of the Machinery building.
- New lights have been installed in the show arena office.
- Worked on the horse show arena, moved sand along the edges and re-worked it. The flag pole was also removed and will install at the 4-H horse barn. Workouts will start on May 13.
- Motion was approved to accept a recommendation from the grounds committee to purchase a bucket for the telehandler.
-  Next grounds committee meeting is Monday, May 12 at 7 p.m. in the fair office.
• Camping committee – Craig Stump, chairman
- Nothing to report.
• Entertainment committee – Mike Kleman, chairman
- Nothing to report.
• Livestock committees:
- Dairy feeder weigh-in will be on Saturday, May 31 from 8 to10:30 a.m. at the fairgrounds. Mark Light will be sending out a letter to exhibitors to remind them of the weigh-in.
- Motion to purchase Microsoft Office with Access and anti-virus protection for six computers was approved.
• Rides & Concessions committee – Janie Seiler, chairman
- Deadline for contract deposits is May 15.
- Working with Pepsi on a contract for this year’s fair.
• Junior fair board – Nancy Rickenbacher, chairman
- Junior fair board committee assignments were handed out to the directors.
• Other committees:
- The board approved the advertising budget.
• Old business:
- Received a letter from the Hardin Community Foundation Grant Committee stating we will be receiving grant money to be picked up on May 15.
- Tuesday, Sept. 2 will be Veterans Day and free admission with proof of a Veteran’s ID card or a pass can be obtained from the veteran’s service office.
- Friday, Sept. 7 will be Senior Citizens Day and free admission with proof of birth over age 60 or Golden Buckeye Card.
• New business:
- Next fair board meeting will be June 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the fair office.
