The Hardin Northern FFA Urban Soils Team competed in the National Home Site Soil Judging Contest in Oklahoma City.
In this contest teams from all over the U.S., including Hawaii, judge the soil to determine how well the soil is suited for homes.
The contest was a lot different than the soil contest here in Ohio and students had to learn a completely new style and way of thinking in judging. The team learned new ways to determine slope, new soils to judge, and even had to judge permeability and surface runoff.
The Hardin Northern team consisted of Austin Douglas, Dustin Duvall, Austin Roby and Reed Poling. As a team they placed 26th out of 110 teams.
Also while on the trip the team visited the St. Louis Arch and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and met many people from across the United States.
