HN FFA recognized as a top ten chapter in Ohio

Haily Bradley and Tiffany Breidenbach receive the plaque to recognize Hardin Northern as a top ten FFA chapter in the state.

This year the Hardin Northern FFA took 18 members to the State FFA Convention on May 3-4. At the convention, the chapter received recognition for being a gold medal chapter, placing in the top ten in the state in the area of community development, and placing top ten overall as an FFA chapter. The chapter also received recognition for donating money to CROP/Church World Services.
Savannah Ferkins was recognized on stage for being the first place individual for Nature Interpretation.
Lauren Hoffman was awarded second in the state for her Specialty Crop Proficiency. Her SAE consisted of raising chrysanthemums during the summer and selling them in the fall. She was responsible for planting, fertilizing, and caring for her 400 pots of mums.

Austin Douglas was a finalist at the state level with his Agriscience Plant Research Proficiency. Austin’s SAE consisted of test plots with 16 acres of corn and 16 acres of soybeans.
Also receiving recognition was Billy Mills who received a scholarship to attend the Washington Leadership Conference in July.
Hardin Northern had three officers receive gold ratings for their officer books and were recognized on stage for their accomplishments. Savannah Ferkins was recognized for her secretary’s book, Dustin Duvall for his treasurer’s book, and Lauren Hoffman for her reporter’s scrapbook.
There were six State Degree recipients from Hardin Northern. They were Courtney Acton, Haily Bradley, Austin Douglas, Robert Gault, and Carlie

Stump. Courtney’s SAEs included raising soybeans and working for Redman Farms. Haily raised breeding and market hogs. Austin did a corn and soybean research plot. Robert’s SAEs included raising market hogs and working at Heritage Cooperative. Carlie took dairy steers to the fair and worked for Wil-Mar Farms.
While attending the convention, members listened to keynote speakers talk about overcoming obstacles and doing the best a person can do. The chapter also visited the Agricultural Engineering facility of The Ohio State University. Congratulations to all of the members who received recognition at the 2012 State FFA Convention.
