Upper Scioto names honor court for Class of 2012

McGUFFEY — Ten students were named to the Class of 2012 honor court at Upper Scioto Valley High School.
Graduation ceremonies were held May 18.
Seven students graduated with high distinction for achieving a grade point average between 3.75 and 4.0. Three graduated with distinction for attaining a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.749.
High Distinction

Kaitlyn Anderson

Kaitlyn Anderson is the daughter of Jeff and Deb Anderson of Kenton. She earned a 4.0 GPA. She plans to attend Wright State University and major in pre-med to eventually become a psychiatrist. Her activities included class officer for three years, participant in the Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program, tutoring, National Honor Society, graduate of the Hardin County Youth Leadership program and a four-year member of the All ‘A’ honor roll.

Stephanie Harpster

Stephanie Harpster is the daughter of Stephen and Amy Harpster of Waynesfield. She earned a 3.97 GPA. She plans to attend Ohio State University at Lima and major in a science field. Her activities included FFA, 4-H, National Honor Society, track and field, cheerleading, Hardin County Youth Leadership, drama and volunteer at Hardin Hills Health Center.

Alex Parker

Alex Parker is the son of Rick and Katie Parker of Alger. He earned a 3.75 GPA. He plans to attend Bluffton University and major in public health and communications. His activities included golf, drama (most outstanding male lead role and best show), track, FFA (gold star rating for treasurer’s book), National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, Students Against Destruction Decisions, prom king and Elks Teen of the Month.

Justine Prater

Justine Prater is the daughter of Jon and Shelby Prater of Belle Center. She earned a 3.97 GPA. She plans to attend the University of Findlay and major in physical therapy. Her activities included National Honor Society, student council, Students Against Destruction Decisions (vice president), Business Professionals of America, prom committee, class officer, track and field, Big Brothers Big Sisters, prom court, basketball, volleyball, Elks Teen of the Month and Who’s Who nominee.

Kayla Prater

Kayla Prater is the daughter of Jon and Shelby Prater of Belle Center. She earned a 4.0 GPA. She plans to attend the University of Findlay and major in pre-med. Her activities included student government president, student council member, Upper Scioto Valley Mini-Relay For Life staff member, Business Professionals of America Executive Council member, track, volleyball (captain 2011-2012), basketball (captain 2011-2012), sophomore leadership, prom committee, National Honor Society (president), Academic Lottery, Big Brothers Big Sisters, collection for Ronald McDonald House Charities, coat and blanket drive, Quiz Bowl, USV Students Against Destruction Decisions (president), Elks Teen of the Month and Academic All-Ohio Basketball 2011-2012.

Shelby Rowe

Shelby Rowe is the daughter of David and Mechel Rowe of Alger. She earned a 3.85 GPA. She plans to attend Owens Community College and major in sonography. Her activities included basketball, FCCLA, National Honor Society, student council, RAM Award winner, Archie Griffin Award winner, honor roll and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Tyler Shaw

Tyler Shaw is the son of Adam and Lisa Shaw of Harrod. He earned a 4.0 GPA. He plans to attend Wright State University and major in rehabilitation sciences. His activities included student council, class vice president, Business Professionals of America, Students Against Destructive Decisions, prom committee, National Honor Society (vice president), varsity swimming (LASCA first team), track and field, WLIO Scholar Athlete of the Week, Elks Teen of the Month/Year and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Distinction

Kiley Beale

Kiley Beale is the daughter of Thomas and Susan Beale of Belle Center. She earned a 3.61 GPA. She plans to attend the University of Cincinnati and double major in women’s studies and political science. Her activities included volleyball, cheerleading, track, basketball, softball, FCCLA, National Honor Society, student council, homecoming court and student government.

Kalee Shepherd

Kalee Shepherd is the daughter of Jim and Jane Shepherd of Alger. She earned a 3.62 GPA. She plans to attend Rhodes State College. Her activities included FCCLA, National Honor Society, student council, Students Against Destructive Decisions, student government and honor roll.

Alicia Shobe

Alicia Shobe is the daughter of Gary and Jo Shobe of Alger. She earned a 3.59 GPA. She plans to attend Ohio Northern University and major in computer science. Her activities included student council, National Honor Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Business Professionals of America, Elks Teen of the Month, FCCLA and tutor for elementary students.
