The arraignment of a 16-year-old charged with murdering a Kenton man in 2009 was continued Tuesday in an informal hearing in Hardin County Juvenile Court.
The unidentified juvenile is facing one charge of murder, one count of aggravated arson and two charges of attempted murder from the death of Gary Wells, who died in a house fire on W. Walnut Street in Kenton on Dec. 8, 2009.
Prosecutor Brad Bailey has filed a discretionary bindover motion in the case to allow the youth to be tried as an adult. Judge James Rapp said a hearing will determine if the child is amenable in the juvenile system.
“That will be time-consuming and expensive,” said Rapp.
The court has ordered the name of the juvenile to be withheld and Rapp said the defense counsel has indicated a desire to have the hearings closed.
The youth remains in custody at the juvenile detention center, said Rapp. The arraignment will continue July 11.
