FINDLAY — Republican State Central Committee member Cheryl Buckland of Findlay has announced her intent to run for the 83rd Ohio House district, which includes Hancock, Hardin and a portion of Logan County.

Incumbent State Rep. Robert Cole Sprague is not seeking re-election in 2018 to run for the state treasurer’s job that year.

Buckland’s political approach will tap on her past experience as a small business owner, director of the nursing of several health care facilities and director of development in secondary education.

Her experiences in economic development and as a nursing educator provide a unique foundation for serving as state representative, according to a release from her campaign.

Buckland’s current community involvement includes: Hancock County Republican Club Executive and Central Committees, Rotary International, Greater Fostoria Community Foundation and Farm Bureau.

She is a 2011 graduate of the JoAnn Davidson Institute for Republican Women. Buckland previously served on the Blanchard Valley Hospital Board of Directors, Board of Counselors at the University of Findlay and the Hancock County Humane Society.

“I’m running because I am a farm girl at heart and former small business owner with political experience. As a nurse it would be an honor to continue Robert Sprague’s leadership initiatives on the opiate crisis. I am passionate about disease prevention and addressing health care costs. I support flood mitigation solutions, business success and believe that smaller government and less regulation is best for the 83rd District.”
