Hardin, Wyandot plan soil health workshop

0

The Hardin and Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) are hosting a Soil Health and Cover Crop workshop on Friday, Feb. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wyandot EMS Building, located at 401 N. Warpole Street, Upper Sandusky.

During the morning part of the workshop, participants will hear from Jim Hoorman, a regional soil health specialist from the Northwest Region of Ohio and Michigan Natural Resources Conservation Service. He will be discussing soil health as it pertains to various conservation practices, like minimum tillage and cover crops.

After lunch, which is available for a $5 fee, the SWCDs have contacted several local farmers from each county to talk to the group about how they have incorporated cover crops and various conservation practices into their operations.

After their stories, there will be a question and answer session.  At this time, the participants and even the local panel of farmers may ask questions. The goal is for all involved to gain some insight into how they can improve their farming practices for the future.

Interested individuals can call the Hardin SWCD office at 419-673-0456, ext. 3 or the Wyandot SWCD office at 419-731-2566 to reserve a spot for the workshop. Please make your reservations by Feb. 14.
