age 80, Ann Arbor, Mich.
A funeral Mass for Donald Joe Carter was conducted today at St. Mary Student Parish, Ann Arbor, Mich.
He died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the University of Michigan Hospital as a result of injuries suffered in a fall at home.
He was born on July 4, 1931 to Harry and Mildred (Engle) Carter in Kenton and they preceded him in death. On June 27, 1953 he married Marjorie L. Clary, also in Kenton, and she survives.
Also surviving are a sister Judy and her husband Al Burckle, son Michael and his wife Ann (Thompson) Carter, son Jon and his wife Sharon (McDermott) Carter, and son Kevin and his wife Ann (Francavilla) Carter. His grandchildren Matthew, Zoe, David, Elliot and Julie especially miss his “Grandpa bread,” which he baked fresh for virtually every family gathering.
Joe spent his entire professional life in the practice of pharmacy, including 45 years on the staff of the University of Michigan Hospitals. He was an avid, broad reader of scientific research literature as well as books on nature, and he loved camping and hiking trips with his family.
Those wishing to make a charitable contribution in Joe’s memory (in lieu of flowers) may direct it to the Campus Ministry, St. Mary Student Parish, 331 Thompson Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Please visit Joe’s personal webpage and leave a message at www.niefuneralhomes.com.
