Services for Harold “John” Freed will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. Steven Edmiston.

Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at Crates Funeral Home, Arlington and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

He died at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 at The Ganzhorn Suites, Powell.

He was born May 31, 1937 to the late Loren and Zelma F. (Rodabaugh) Freed.

On Feb. 22, 1959 he married Anna Jeanette Reichley and she preceded him in death on March 5, 2009.

Surviving are his sons, Jeffrey J. (Colleen) Freed of Delaware and Scott A. (Cheryl S., deceased) Freed of Arlington; his daughter. Cheryl A. (Jon L.) Gast of Findlay; his brother, Lavern L. Freed of rural Jenera; his grandchildren, Ashley (Kyle) Dinger, Kristen (Mark) Christie, Joshua Freed, Justin (Staci) Freed, Corey Freed, Jordan Freed, Matthew Freed, Amber (Wesley) Bell, Trever (Kirsten) Gast, Joshua (Crystal) Gast, Jessalyn (Mike) Tester, Lindsay (Zach) Lange, and Alissa (Riley) Brookings; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas L. Freed and his sister, Emma von Stein.

John graduated from Hardin Northern High School in 1955.

He was a life long member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He retired from Cooper Tire after 30-plus years and farmed all his life.

He enjoyed fishing and watching his grandchildren play sports.

Memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Center at the Orchards, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Alzheimer’s Association, and/or Ohio Health Hospice.
