Graveside services for John “Pete” Bernard Britton will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 at Otterbein Cemetery by Pastor Jim Goldsmith. Military rites will be performed.

He died on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 at his residence.

He was born on Nov. 2, 1925 in LaRue to the late Rodney and Lillian (Hatcher) Britton. On Nov. 21, 1946 he married Barbara Lee McAdams and she preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2000.

Surviving are a daughter, Connie (Bill) Hix of Markle, Ind.; two sons, Michael R. (Diana) Britton of Kenton and John D. (Barbara) Britton of Zanesfield; a sister, Marjorie Cannode of Kenton; a brother; Rodney O. Britton Jr. of Mount Victory; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Young Mi) Britton, Barbara (David) Clark, Mandy (Aaron) Shirk, Sean (Danielle) Lynn, Patrick Lynn, Josh (Bridget) Britton and Brianne (Addison) Alig; 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Freda Overly and Ruth Clyborn; two infant sisters, Dorothy Britton and Betty Britton; four brothers, Robert “Bob” Britton, William “Bill” Britton, Richard “Jack” Britton and Donald “Don” Britton and an infant brother, Danny Britton.

John was a United States Marine veteran serving during WWII in the South Pacific.

He was the owner and proprietor of JB Britton Construction, that he ran for over 50 years.

He was a life member of the William Britton VFW Post 6817 in Mount Victory which was named after his brother.

John, whom most knew by the name of “Pete,” was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed bow hunting, shooting skeet, and participated in many archery shoots as well as 100-mile bicycling events.

Pete also had his own private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying whenever he had the opportunity.

He was a true family man who loved to spend time with his grandchildren, especially if they had a project they need help with.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Universal Home Health and Hospice or Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Kenton.
