Services for Michael D. Risner will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home in Alger. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, near Alger.
Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and until the time of the servie on Monday. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. by the Mason Lodge #344 of Ada.
He died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
He was born Oct. 19, 1948 to Elmer R. and Elllen E. (Gilroy) Risner in Hardin County. On Oct. 10, 1981, he married Barbara D. (Shaffer) Hickman and she survives in Cardington.
Also surviving are a son, Michael D. Risner, II of Alger; a daughter, Katina M. (Paul) Mount of Malta; two step-sons, Andrew T. Hickman of Marion and Patrick G. Hickman of Cardington; 10 grandchildren, Lia L. Risner, Tommy Risner, Richard Risner, Joseph Hickman, Amanda Mount, Michael D. Risner III, Nathan S. Hickman, Jaden Mount, Silas Brooks and Cheyenne Brooks; a great-granddaughter, Alexus Tilton; two brothers, Paul E. (Carolyn) Risner of Ada and Larry L. (Rayola) Risner of McGuffey and two sisters, Judy L. Risner of Lima and Brenda J. Risner of Marion.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Russell H. Risner and Joe L. Risner and three sisters, Victoria L. Risner, Marilyn M. Rolston and Joyce A. Comer.
He retired in 2001 after working 23 years at the Marion Correctional Institute. He previoulsy worked with the Harrod, Alger and LaRue Police Departments and with the Allen County and Marion County Sheriff Departments.
He was a member of the Allen County Fraternal Order of Police and a former member of the Roundhead VFW Post 8832.
He was a Master Mason in the Sojourners Lodge 653 F&M of Marion.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War from April 1968 through July 1970 in the U.S. Army Europe Fourth Armor Division.
