James Junior, 78
Waynesfield
Services for James Junior Barns will be 11 a.m. Friday at Armentrout Funeral Home in Waynesfield by the Rev. Mark Burden. Burial will be in Roundhead Cemetery with full military honors by Roundhead VFW Post 8832.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
He died at 3:45 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, at his residence.
He was born on July 5, 1929, in Wayne Township, Auglaize County to James F. and Helen (Smith) Barns. In October 1952 he married Joan Beatty and she survives in Waynesfield.
Also surviving are three daughters, Melinda (Ron) Crossmon of Van Buren, Charlotte (Mike) Gallimore of Maryville, Tenn., and Brenda (Brad) Harless of Bellefontaine; a sister, Marcella (Bud) Chamberlin of Kenton; two brothers, Carl (Ruth) Barns of Springfield and Leroy (Nancy) Barns of Belle Center; eight grandchildren, Anita Martins, Jason Crossmon, Alena Pagel, Allison Crossmon, Josh Gallimore, Larissa Keener, Robert Harless and Bryan Harless and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a younger brother.
He attended the Silver Creek Methodist Church and was a 1952 graduate of Waynesfield High School.
He was a corporal in the U.S. Army serving with Headquarters Co., 72nd Tank Battalion in Korea where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart.
He drove a delivery truck for Sealtest and Equity Dairies for 30 years and he retired from the Kenton City Schools as a boiler operator at the high school.
He was a life member of the Roundhead VFW and the Kenton Military Order of the Purple Heart. He took care of the Roundhead Township cemeteries for many years.

Shuherk
Lewis E., 84
Findlay
Services for Lewis E. Shuherk will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday and an hour before services on Saturday. Masonic and Eastern Star services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He died at 6:22 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the Heritage Estates in Findlay.
He was born Aug. 9, 1923, in Antwerp to Charles J. and Edna (Peffley) Shuherk. On Sept. 7, 1941, he married Helen “Betty” Griswold. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2005.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda K. (Perry) Johnson of Sylvania and Constance “Connie” A. (Brad) Johnson of Findlay; two brothers, Wayne Shuherk of Antwerp and Eddie Shuherk of Cromwell, Ind.; a sister, Esther Morrow of Antwerp; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He retired after 23 1/2 years as a buyer for the United Aircraft Products. He also had worked in retail for 19 years with Haffner’s.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II from 1943-46, and was a member of the American Legion Post 3 in Findlay.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Findlay, Elks Club in Upper Sandusky and the Findlay Garden and Antique Clubs.
He was also a member of the Findlay Lodge No. 227 Free and Accepted Masons, where he was the former Master in Findlay Chapter No. 58 and Past Commander in Commandry No. 49 and also the past Master in the Mt. Gilead Chapter. He was a member of both the Scottish and York Rite. He was a past Patron of the Eastern Star in both Findlay and Mt. Gilead and also a member of the Ohio Priory No. 18 Knights of the York Cross of Honor.
He was a member of the Findlay Shrine and Zenobia Clubs.
Memorials may be made to the Findlay Area Masonic Charity Foundation, 303 Osborn Avenue, Findlay and/or a charity of the donor’s choice in his memory.
