Services for William Thomas "Tom" Dyer will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's United Church of Christ in Kenton by the Rev. Scott Johnson and Pastor Chuck Zweizig. Burial will be in Norman Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Kenton Amvets Post 1994 Honor Guard.
Friends may call 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Schindewolf Stevens Stout Funeral Home in Kenton.
He died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
He was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Hardin County to Robert Emmitt and Mildred (Wroten) Dyer. On May 26, 1950, he married Patricia Detrick and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Deborah (Ron) Nines of Columbus; three grandchildren, Benjamin (Melissa) Nines, Sara Nines and Troy Nines, all of Columbus; two brothers, Robert (Jean) Dyer of Bellefontaine and Elmo (Virginia) Dyer of Kenton; three sisters, Carolyn Lawrence and Peggy (Charles) Rogers, both of Kenton and Phyllis (Richard) Wamack of Mount Victory and a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Dyer of Kenton.
He was preceded in death by a four brothers, Charles, Omar, Hubert and Russell and a sister, Dorothy Samples.
He worked for W. J. Wentz for 25 years as a carpenter and worked at Carter Lumber in Green Camp for 10 years.
He attended the St. John's United Church of Christ.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was a member of the United States LST Association, a life member of VFW Post 3333, a member of the Ohio chapter of LST/Amphibious Association and a member of the American Legion Post 0888.
