Winning smiles at the Hardin County Fair

A variety of talents were showcased at the fair on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Julie Zaring of Forest brought home championships with her rose arrangement and also her individual mini-rose at this year’s rose show at the Hardin County Fair.

The entry from the Dunkirk Garden Club was named the top booth at the Hardin County Fair Flower Show.

Keala Williams, of Kenton, won a championship title for her entry of apple pie cupcakes.

Clair Wilson’s rose arrangement entitled Demo Derby, was a championship in the junior flower show at the 2012 Hardin County Fair. Her parents are Andy and Darlene Wilson of Dunkirk.

The dress MacKenzie Rader entered in the arts and crafts compeitition was made of duct tape and earned a reserve championship in the division for the youth judging.

Sean Galvin, Kenton, snagged a championship rosette with his Tuscan Red wine at the arts and crafts contest Tuesday.

Pam and Jerry Miller, LaRue, had success at the arts and craft competition again this year. Pam secured a reserve championship for her covered apricot coconut entry and a grand champion rosette for her canned whole tomatoes. Jerry’s peach wine was named the reserve champion in this year’s fair.

Grace Hattery’s zuchini cupcakes with buttercream frosting earned a grand championship rosette from the judges in the youth contest of the arts and craft contest. Her mom, Jennifer Hattery, was also successful in the arts and craft competition, where her rolled cookies with butterfly sugar captured a championship. They are from Kenton.

Coleene Hauenstein, Ada, was a big winner with the judges at the arts and crafts building where her no-bake bar cookies and yeast bread rolls both won reserve honors. Lori Paul, Kenton, won a grand champion rosette for her fruit cookie bar and reserve honors for her carmel delight cookies.

Four for four

Elisa Marie McKinley brought four entries into the arts and craft contest Tuesday and took four rosettes home. Her orange blueberry nut breat was the grand champion. A fruit and honey bread was named reserve champion. McKinley won a grand prize for her angel food cake, as did her Neopolitan Party Cake.
