Crocheting topic for Ada seniors

Ada Senior Citizens were entertained at their June 13 meeting by George Haver. He is the brother of member, Phyllis Conley and both live in Lima. Phyllis joined Ada Senior Citizens because her late husband, Carlos Conley, was from Ada.
George Haver is a retired math teacher.  As a child he was hyper active. Some of his older female relatives thought that crocheting would help him calm down because you had to slow down and count the stitches. So at 10 years of age George started crocheting and he has never stopped.
He brought some large examples of some of his work, doilies that were mounted on boards at least three feet square. He also showed a queen sized white bed spread that had 177 roses with one red rose in the center. The single red rose caught the eye of the judge one year at the Indiana State Fair and George won a blue ribbon. George also exhibits some of his work at the Allen County Fair.
George has crocheted at least four of these large rose covered bed spreads as gifts. He also makes smaller items like place mats and book marks.
The group enjoyed the program and George’s crocheted items. Many women in the group are crocheters. A meeting in the fall will feature crocheting. George plans to be there.
