Early deficit costs USV


Upper Scioto Valley senior Cortney Stroope heads to the basket Saturday during teh Rams’ loss to Allen East.

McGUFFEY — Allen East scored the first 11 points Saturday and went on to defeat Upper Scioto Valley 68-44 in girls basketball.
Allen East senior Erin Conkle scored six points during the opening 11-0 run that spanned the first 4:45 of the game.
Upper Scioto Valley (4-5) got on the board when Shelby Spradlin made a layup off an assist from Brittany Holbrook. Spradlin, a freshman, scored a team-high 13 points with nine coming in the first half.
After two empty possessions, Holbrook drilled a 3-pointer to pull the Rams to within eight points. That was as close as USV would get as Allen East countered with four straight points.
Shelby Carroll scored 12 points for the Rams, with 11 coming in the second half. USV also got nine points off the bench from Olivia Yaussy, all of which came in the second half.
The Rams return to action Thursday when they travel to Sidney Lehman Catholic.
