MILFORD CENTER — Taking its unbeaten record into Friday’s game against Fairbanks, Ridgemont failed to get on the board in the first half as it was shut down offensively, falling 48-12 in its Northwest Central Conference opener.
The visiting Golden Gophers are now 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the NWCC.
Failing to get anything going in the first quarter, the Gophers gave up four scores to host Fairbanks.
Ridgemont was blanked again in the second quarter and was unable to keep Fairbanks off the board as the Panthers extended their lead to 41 points before halftime.
Gopher quarterback Tyler Tillman connected with Devin Rowe for a 35-yard score to finally get Ridgemont into the end zone with 2:57 remaining in the third quarter.
Trailing 48-6, Tillman again put up points for the Gophers as he completed his pass to Jacob Eversole for 24 yards and the score with 9:05 left in the game.
Tillman finished 8-of-24 with 120 yards passing, two scores and an interception. Rowe led the receivers with six catches for 87 yards and a TD.
On the ground, Tim Cowan Jr. ran for 53 yards on nine rushes, while Tillman rushed for 28 yards on 13 carries and Colin Turner picked up 34 yards on 17 carries.
Defensively, Eversole had one interception for the Gophers. Justice McGue wrapped up seven tackles and recovered a fumble, while Cody Ray added six tackles and forced a fumble.
