Falcons stop five-game losing streak

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale jumped out to an early double-digit advantage and was able to hold off Galion for a 65-53 victory in a North Central Conference boys basketball contest Saturday night.
The Falcons, who snapped a five-game losing streak to improve to 4-5 on the season and 1-4 in NCC play, led 19-5 after one quarter.
Galion (3-7 and 2-3) outscored the Falcons 28-21 over the middle two quarters to pull within 40-33 entering the final eight minutes, but Riverdale was able to outscore the Tigers 25-20 down the stretch.
Lee Holderman had a game-high 22 points, including draining 11-of-13 free throws, to lead the Falcons. Grant Loveridge added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Jimmy Fox had 11 points and Chad Pever chipped in with 10.
Tyson Frey added nine rebounds for the Falcons, who held a 37-27 edge on the boards.
Riverdale travels to Wynford on Friday.
