Frey, Conover among Falcons to advance

Riverdale’s Jordan Conover competes in the 800 run during district track competition at Bucyrus on Saturday.

BUCYRUS — The Riverdale boys and girls teams both advanced several individuals to this week’s regional track meet on the way to eight place finishes in the team standings in Division III district competition at Bucyrus on Saturday.
The Lady Falcons finished third in the 800 relay as the team of Sarah Hunter, Kristen Evans, Kelsey Pope and Karen Wise ran the two laps in 1:51.02.
Hannah Frey moves on to regionals with a third place in the 3,200 run  (12:38.87).
The top four in each event qualified for this week’s regional meet in Lancaster.
The Falcons had three fifth place finishes including Frey in the 1,600 run (5:44.74), Sarah Hunter in the 400 dash (1:03.63) and the 1,600 relay team of Evans, Kaye Lynn Wise, Hunter and Karen Wise (4:20.49).
Anna Penwell was sixth in the 800 run (2:40.72), Laura Renteria was sixth in the pole vault (8-0), Karen Wise was seventh in the 200 dash (28.45 seconds).
Hunter was seventh in the long jump (14-8 1/4).
The Riverdale girls finished with 36 points. Colonel Crawford won the girls meet with 95 points.
Jordan Conover advanced for the Falcon boys with a third place effort in the 800 run (2:01.46).
Conover will also compete on the Falcons 3,200 relay team which qualified for the regional meet on Thursday.
The Riverdale 1,600 relay team of Kolten Martin, Chad Pever, Justin Wells and Conover was fifth (3:32.55).
Riverdale boys team of Kolten Martin, Tré Headington, Caleb Hill and Seth Knoll was sixth in the 800 relay (1:37.39).
Adam Fox added a sixth place in the discus (129-02) and shot put (43-7 1/2), while Conover tied or sixth in the high jump (5-6).
Riverdale finished with 28.92 points. Seneca East won the meet with 124 points.
