BUCYRUS — Dark clouds and rain cast a sullen atmosphere on the Wynford Invitational Tuesday, but it was all blue skies and sunshine for Upper Sandusky’s Garret Miller.
The junior was champion of the boys run and had an indelible smile plastered to his face as he took refuge underneath the Rams’ tent afterward.
“I like how it helps out a lot and I’m glad I got first for the team,” he said. “I’ve never gotten first in high school before.”
The rain started about 13:00 into the run and escalated to torrential downpour by the time Miller finished at 17:34.
Riverdale brought a small group of runners to the invite. The boys rounded out the bottom of the placing and the girls only had one competitor, Tiffany Jeffrey, who finished in 26:12, which was good for 37th place.
Tyler Miller was first for the Falcons on the boys’ side at 40th place. Also for the Falcons, Mitchel Matheny was 46th in 23:10, Cody Radabuagh was 49th in 23:43, Jay Mason was 57th in 29:11 and Owen Palmer was 58th in 30:39.
Riverdale hosts North Baltimore and Van buren on Thursday, while Wynford and Upper Sandusky compete in the Tiffin Carnival on Saturday.
