Raider boys suffer 3-2 loss to River Valley

BELLEFONTAINE — River Valley’s Chris Winger found the back of the net on a free kick with 30 seconds left in the game to lift the Vikings to a 3-2 win over host Ben Logan in a boys soccer match Saturday night.
The Raiders led 1-0 early in the game when Chase Prall scored off a Jacob Smith assist. River Valley scored two goal before halftime, including another on a Winger free kick, to take a 2-1 lead at halftime.
The Raiders tied the game when Robby Eleyet blasted home a Dan Kumher pass early in the second half.
“It was disappointing to give up a goal like that at the end,” Ben Logan coach Jamie Hughes said. “I thought we were going to be the team to pull one out, we certainly had the opportunities, but the guys played hard and that’s what we need to do to continue to get better.
“We knew River Valley was going to come in here and be a tough game. They’ve got 4-5 seniors that are four-year varsity starters and every year we see them, they are better and better. It came down to who could finish one more opportunity and hats off to Chris Winger, he put the ball on goal and when you do that you’re dangerous.”
Ben Logan drops to 2-6 on the season, while River Valley is now 4-4.
The Raiders travel to Tecumseh today at 6 p.m.
