Wapakoneta takes care of KHS netters

WAPAKONETA — Wapakoneta defeated Kenton 5-0 in a Western Buckeye League tennis match on Tuesday afternoon.
In singles play, Claire Oates was the most competitive Wildcat, falling to the Redskins Kiersten Wellon in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In the other singles matches, Wapak’s Kaitlin Snyder defeated Danyel Heilman 6-1, 6-0 and Chelsea Myers beat Amanda Freshcorn 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, Annie Harro and Carly Buzzard were 6-0, 6-0 winners over Haley Jones and Kendra Tidd, and Chloe Veit and Rachel Robert beat Emilee Narr and Breanna Alexander 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
“We did not play very inspired tennis tonight against a decent Wapak team,” Kenton coach Keith Kissling said. “We should have been much more competitive with them, but outside of the third singles and second doubles, I did not see as much effort and concentration as I would have liked. … I have stressed to the girls that this is the time of year we should be playing our best tennis, with the WBL and sectional tournament starting next week.”
Kenton travels to Lima Senior today.
