Wildcats end season at sectional tourney

Sectional tennis

Kenton’s Graham Reese returns a shot during doubles action at the Division II sectional tournament at UNOH on Thursday.

LIMA — Kenton’s Kyle Phillips was the lone winner for Kenton in boys tennis action on the first day of the Division II sectional at the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Phillips was a first round winner over Nick Cunningham of Bath 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
“There’s nothing more exciting in tennis than a third-set tiebreaker,” Kenton coach Dave Cosart said. “Kyle did a nice job as a freshman of keeping his composure and letting his opponent make the mistakes.”
Phillips lost his second round match to second-seeded John Schroeder of Ottawa-Glandorf, 6-0, 6-0.

Dillon Kitchen

The Wildcats Dillon Kitchen serves the ball in his and Austin Edler’s doubles match.

In other singles action, Bath’s Jason Lauf defeated Jake Abbott 6-0, 6-2 and Celina’s Alex Seibel downed Braxton Kiess 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action, the Wildcats’ Graham Reese and Collin Roll had a first round bye, but fell in the second round to Alex Kuhlman and Brenden Drerup of Ottawa-Glandorf, 6-3, 6-2. Dillon Kitchen and Austin Edler were defeated in the first round by Matt Holt and Tanner Orton of Bath, 6-4, 6-2.
