FINDLAY, Ohio (AP) — Police in northern Ohio say an officer has shot and killed a man during a traffic stop.

Findlay Police Chief Greg Horne says the officer fired at the 30-year-old man during a struggle after he tried to get back in the car. The chief says a gun was found inside the car.

The traffic stop happened around 3 a.m. Tuesday on a residential street.

Horne would not say at a news conference why the officer stopped the car or where the gun was in the vehicle. The chief says there were three people in the car at the time of the shooting.

Police identified the man who was shot and killed as Jeremy Linhart of Findlay.

The Courier newspaper reports it’s the first shooting involving an officer since 1999.
