SPENCERVILLE -
Riverdale's Kayla Brown and Hardin Northern's Shelby Stump qualified for regionals in two individual events to lead area competitors at the Spencerville Division III district track and field meet on Saturday.
Brown easily won the 300 hurdles and added a fourth place effort in the 100 meter hurdles, while Stump ran to a third place in the 200 dash and a fourth in the 400 dash to earn a spot in this week's regional meet in Tiffin.
The top four in each event advance.
Brown, whose 300 hurdles time of 45.83 seconds was more than two seconds faster than the second place time of 48.07 seconds by Ottoville's Holly Heitmeyer, also moved on as part of the Falcons 4 by 400 relay team.

KETTERING -
Willy Corbett just had that feeling. As his left-handed starting pitcher toed the rubber to start Saturday's Division II district final baseball game against Ben Logan, the Cincinnati McNicholas head baseball coach knew a great outing was forthcoming.
"I don't know why I just felt like he was going to pitch lights out," Corbett said of his southpaw, Paul Uhl. "And he did. He pitched real well up here last year so I thought, Wow, this just might be his day again."
The day certainly belonged to Uhl, who held the Raiders to just one base hit as Ben Logan fell victim to a 2-0 loss at the hands of the Rockets (20-10) at Kettering Fairmont High School.
Opportunities to put runs on the board did not come often for the Raiders, whose strong run through the playoffs came to an end.
Despite his team being held scoreless in the season finale, head coach Doug Rutan was appreciative for the Raiders' 19-9 season.
Winners of 12 of its last 14 games, Ben Logan sprinted to the finish line and grabbed its second straight Central Buckeye Conference title since the 1996-97 seasons.

ELIDA -
What a difference a week makes.
Seven days ago, Kenton track coach Chuck Downing was filled with disappointment after injuries hampered his team and brought the Wildcats down in the team standings at the Western Buckeye League meet.
On Friday, even though some of his top sprinters were still banged up, the Wildcat mentor was able to celebrate the fact that his team was able to advance more runner to next week's regional meet than in recent memory after Kenton athletes advanced in seven events.
"I'm very excited," Downing said. "This is the most events we've qualified in a long, long time. After last week at the WBL meet with all the injuries and issues we had to overcome, for the kids to step up and run as well as they did today is just fantastic.
"I don't think any of our kids have peaked yet and are hoping that they don't peak for two more weeks. Although next week, they're going to have to run their best to make they are competing for another week (state) after that."
