Bame, Brown and Falcons relay advance to finals at Tiffin regional
TIFFIN - Two area athletes and a relay team advanced past the first day of the Division III regional track and field meet at Tiffin's Frost-Kalnow Stadium on Wednesday night.
Hardin Northern's Nathan Bame won his heat in the 100m dash preliminaries to earn a spot in Friday's finals.
Bame's time of 11.54 seconds was the second fastest entering Friday's finals behind Danbury's Nick Wiedenhoft, who ran a 11.36 in the opposite heat.
Riverdale's Kayla Brown had the top preliminary time in the 300 hurdles, finishing in 45.33 seconds to qualify for the finals. Her time was nearly two second faster than anyone else in her heat.
Brown failed to qualify for the finals in the 100 hurdles, placing fifth in her heat with a time of 16.93 seconds.
The Falcon girls' 4x400 relay team also will move on past the preliminaries. The quartet of Shaye Eatherton, Kylie Brown, Vanessa Stewart and Kayla Brown won their heat in 4:06.01.

Riverdale set dates for spring awards
MOUNT BLANCHARD - Riverdale has set dates for its baseball, softball and track banquets.
The Riverdale softball awards banquet will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 5 in the K-12 cafeteria. Players are asked to bring a hot or cold dish. Drinks and table service will be provided.
The Riverdale baseball awards banquet will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 9 in the K-12 cafeteria. Players are asked to bring both a hot and cold dish. Drinks and table service will be provided.
The Riverdale track awards banquet will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 in the K-12 cafeteria. Players are asked to bring a hot or cold dish. Drinks and table service will be provided.

Pitch, hit and run winners
Winners of the recent Pitch, Hit and Run competition sponsored by Kenton Little League were (from left, front) Kyle Orians, Cole Dearing, Brady Donnelly, Troy Goodin, Benjamin Tanner; (back) Nathan King, Alan Spangler, Logan Nichols, Mychael Spangler and Matt Bahr.
Area youth show off baseball skills
There were 35 participants in the Pitch, Hit and Run competition hosted by Kenton Little League on May 17 at Home Run Memorial Park.
Winning first place in their respective age groups were:
Age 7/8 - All-Around, Kyle Orians; pitching, Kyle Orians; hitting, Cole Dearing; running, Cole Dearing.
Age 9/10 - All-Around, Brady Donnelly; pitching, Brady Donnelly; hitting, Benjamin Tanner; running, Troy Goodin.
Age 11/12 - All-Around, Alan Spangler; pitching, Nathan King, Alan Spangler, Logan Nichols; hitting, Alan Spangler; running, Logan Nichols.
Age 13/14 - All-Around, Mychael Spangler; pitching, Matt Bahr; hitting, Mychael Spangler; running, Mychael Spangler.
The winners will now compete in the sectional competition.
Sectional all-around champions become eligible to qualify for the team championship to be held at a Major League Baseball ballpark.
Pitch, Hit and Run is a baseball skills competition that allows youngsters to showcase their talents in pitching, hitting and running with scores determined by individual performance in each skills event.

Falcons end season with loss to Ontario
ONTARIO - Ontario scored three runs in the first inning and that was all the Warriors needed as the were able to shut down Riverdale 7-0 in North Central Conference baseball action on Tuesday.
Ontario, which claimed a share of the CBC title with the win, held the Falcons to just two hits in the contest.
Levi Brown and Derek Draper had the hits for Riverdale, which finishes its season with an 8-15 overall mark and 5-9 NCC record.
Draper threw a complete game for the Falcons, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits and 4 walks, while striking out nine batters.
